IPL media rights bids are to be announced on August 28. The Board of Control of Cricket in the meantime has received a Supreme Court notice, which may stall the process on the scheduled date.
The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the BCCI to submit its response on a petition by Bharatiya Janta Party leader Subramanyam Swamy, who is seeking a court directive for e-auction of the IPL media rights.
The bid process for IPL media rights is scheduled to close on August 28 and the successful bidder in all likelihood were to be announced on the same date. The rights will be granted for a five-year (2018-2022) cycle. August 24 is the last date for buying the bid documents.

The Apex Court has also scheduled the next hearing in the matter on August 24.
Swamy had moved the Supreme Court on July 11, seeking e-auction of the IPM media rights to ensure transparency in the process. The bench headed by justice Dipak Misra has asked BCCI to submit its response in two weeks.
“Media rights should be done through an e-auction. The current process is a sham and we want to ensure that e-auction is opted,” said Swamy. An e-auction was sought so that the process could be made more transparent.
The auction process was also delayed last year after the apex court has directed the board to comply with the Lodha panel reforms first.
