BARC ratings: Cricket dominates ratings on Sony with no significant World Cup action

It is cricket all over on Indian television broadcast ratings as there was no significant football action in the week between Saturday, July 7, and Friday, July 14. Sony continues to dominate the top sports genre broadcast ratings in India on the strength of Indian cricket team’s tour of England.
The England-India T20 series decider on July 8 is the most watched sports content for the week, reveals the Broadcast Audience Research Council data (Week 28 29, July 7-14, 2018). The match has been listed thrice in the Top 5 programmes rankings for sports on average ratings across all broadcasts. Hindi broadcast on the match on Sony Ten 3 is rated as the N0.1 sports genre programme with 62,67,000 impressions. The Hindi language simulcast on DD Sports and the English language programming on Sony Six are positioned third and second respectively. The other two top-5 slots are occupied by the England-India one-day series opener on July 12.

Sony Sports cluster continues to dominate the sports broadcast ratings in India. Four of the top five sports channels for the week come from Sony Sports Cluster, with the Hindi language Sony Ten 3 leading the ratings with a huge margin on second place Sony Six, which has benefited from the English language broadcast of England-India cricket. Sony Ten 3 has registered 18,33,53,000 impressions as major eyeballs are drawn for cricket, followed by the FIFA World Cup football. DD Sports, also broadcasting the England-India cricket live, has broken into the top five chart.
The ratings battle next week is likely to become more intense between the rich content from the FIFA World Cup final and third place playoff and the England-India ODI series, which is won by the hosts with two successive victories after having lost the opener.
