Hero Motocorp brand ambassador; launched with Xtreme 200R campaign

Hero Motocorp has confirmed the signing of Virat Kohli as its new brand ambassador.
The news comes after the reports that the Indian two-wheeler major has roped in Indian skipper and world’s top batsman Kohli to endorse and promote the upcoming range of four new motorcycles in 200-300cc segment.
The announcement comes at a crucial time as Hero MotoCorp is looking to launch new products in order to maintain its leadership position as India’s market leader and world’s largest manufacturer in two-wheeler segment.
The campaign featuring Kohli will start today across digital, TV, print and outdoor platforms featuring the recently Hero Xtreme 200R which will be the first bike of the company’s premium range to be promoted by Kohli.
Hero has also taken to various leading Indian national dailies with full front page advertisements for the campaign #FearNothing featuring Kohli and Hero Xtreme 200R.
The motorcycle marks the entry of the company in the 200 cc segment, where it has been absent till date. The only motorcycle it sold in the whereabouts of this segment was the Karizma, which has grown old and hasn’t been able to retain consumer interest.
The Xtreme 200R is priced at Rs 89,900, ex-showroom, Delhi. At its price, the bike is in the price-segment of smaller 160-180 cc bikes, making it a good upgrade for buyers from the 100-125 cc commuter segment.
The Hero Xtreme 200R is powered by a 199.6 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine developing 18.3 ps of power and 17.1 Nm of torque. The motorcycle offers a good balance between rider comfort and sporty performance, which makes it ideal for daily usage. In safety terms, the motorcycle offers an optional single-channel ABS, which prevents the front wheel from locking under hard or sudden braking.
According to previous reports, the company will slowly move to focus on the 200-250cc segment and then gradually scale up towards the 300cc space. The upper segment bikes will be sold and marketed through premium dealership showroom that will also retail a new range of merchandise and accessories including jackets, helmets, leather bags, shoes, denims, wallets, chinos, T-shirts, sunglasses and riding gear.
Kohli will not be the first cricketer to endorse Hero Motocorp, which in 2002 had signed Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan and Mohammed Kaif to promote the range of its two-wheelers. The deal with Kohli also mark the end of Hero’s five-year jinx of cricket endorsement deals during which it moved on to other sports such as hockey, shooting and athletics.
