BCCI matches live in five-year deal with Star

The Jio TV subscribers will now have access to the televised matches hosted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Reliance Jio has inked a five-year deal with Star India for non-exclusive streaming rights of the cricket matches hosted by the BCCI. Star Sports OTT platform Hotstar will also continue to stream the games.
“Jio and Star will make all televised India-cricket matches available to users of JioTV and Hotstar in India. Reliance Industries Limited signed an agreement in this regard with Star India Pvt Ltd,” Reliance Jio said in a statement.
Star India holds all the media rights for the cricket matches hosted by the BCCI. India’s largest sports broadcast network had retained BCCI’s absolute media rights for five years (2018-2023) for a record ₹ 6,138 crore in April this year.
The Reliance-Jio streaming deal will include all the matches covered and broadcast live by Star Sports. The Jio TV subscribers will thus get the Test matches, one-day international and T20 international games hosted by the BCCI as well as the domestic cricket games which will be broadcast live.
The partnership was announced in Mumbai by the Reliance Jio director Akash Ambani. “With this partnership, we intend to address both these objectives of providing the best sporting content with the best digital infrastructure to the Jio users. Jio promises to and will continue to bring a superlative customer experience in the areas of sports, AR, VR, Immersive viewing and more in the coming days,” said Akash Ambani.
“Jio continues to bring the most exclusive content to its users, this time around through the JioTV app. Cricket is not just played, its worshipped in India. Every Indian must have access to the best sporting events as well as quality and affordable bandwidth to consume the content,” Akash Ambani added.
“We are excited to apply the same lens of innovation and reinvention to the property that we have applied to other sports in the last few years. And, with a new partner in Reliance Jio, we will have even more opportunities to raise the bar for cricket fans,” said Sanjay Gupta, managing director, Star India.
