Mahender Singh Dhoni is a Chennai man at heart. The Chennai Super Kings captain is also batting for the Indian Super League club Chennaiyin FC as he takes pride in the sports culture of the Tamil Nadu Capital in an Hero Indian Super League Season 5 promotional video #FanBannaPadega from Star Sports.
Hero Indian Super League has released yet another promotional video as part of its #FanBannaPadega campaign ahead of Season 5. The video features Chennaiyin FC and one of stakeholders Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
The 37-year-old former Indian skipper is a part of latest digital campaign by Chennaiyin FC in which he breaks all the stereotypes associated with the home State Chennai that it is only good in cricket, referring to another Chennai-base franchisee Chennai Super Kings that plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Dhoni is seen in the video present across various places across India – Indian Coffee House, Kolkata; Anjuna Beach, Goa; and Alleppey Backwaters, Kerala – taking a jibe from different people with opinions, jokes and gimmicks that surrounds the question What does Chennai know about cricket?
- In Chennai, Raphael Agusto (Brazilian footballer and Chennaiyin’s marquee star), is called ‘Salem Boy’ and not ‘Samba Boy.’
- The only offside Chennaiyin FC know is the opposite of leg side.
- What did Chennaiyin FC say when they saw their (goal)keeper? – (Answer) Why isn’t he wearing helmet and pads?
The above are some of the taunts faced by Dhoni form people who believe that Chennai is good only with cricket – Chennai Super Kings being the reigning champions and the most successful Indian Premier League team with three titles in seven appearances in the final ince 2008.
Dhoni then slams shut all the critics with one question – Who has the Hero ISL Cup? – referring to the fact that the team has won two titles, including one from the last season, out of the four seasons organised till date. “Who has the Hero ISL Cup? All their talk is nonsense. Our game (football) is our pride, our property,” says Dhoni urging upon the point that Chennai is champion in football too.
Chennaiyin FC is owned by MS Dhoni, along with Vita Dani and Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan as other stake holders.
Dhoni has also featured in another ISL Season 5 campaign #FanBannaPadega video along with Abhishek Bachchan, Mumbai City FC co-owner Ranbir Kapoor, Bengaluru City FC icon Sunil Chhetri and FSDL chairperson Nita Ambani. The campaign has been conceptualised by Star Sports – the leagues’ official broadcast partner.
