Badminton Association of India (BAI) has announced a ₹10 lakh cash prize to young sensation Lakshya Sen.
BAI president Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a cash prize of ₹10 lakh to “incredible talent” Lakshya Sen, the Asian Junior Badminton Championship boys singles gold medallists. Lakshya Sen has repeated the history after 53 years by becoming the third Indian to win a singles gold medal Asian Badminton Championship. Gautam Thakkar was the first Indian to win a boys singles gold medal at the Asian Badminton Championship in 1953. PV Sindhu was the other Indian junior to win a singles gold medal at the Asian Badminton Championship.
The BAI president while announcing the cash award on his official twitter handle, also praised the young “incredible talent”.

Lakshya, the young Indian sensation, on Sunday had upset top-seeded World No. 1 Kunlavut Vitidsarn in straight games 21-19, 21-18. The 16-year-old ninth seed also ended a six-year medal drought for India at the Asian Badminton Championship.
On his way to the crowning glory, Lakshya had also upset strong contenders like China’s second-seeded Li Shifeng 21-14, 21-12 in the quarter-final, and the 4th seed Ikhshan Leonardo Imanuel Rumbay 21-7, 21-14 in the semi-final. The former World No. 1 junior player, Sen has also been an Asian Badminton Championship bronze medallist.
