Algerian right winger Riyadh Mahrej has agreed to move to from Leicester City to Manchester City in a $70 million transfer deal.
The 2017-18 EPL champions are all set to get their first signing of this summer as Leister City have reportedly agreed to a deal of £ 60 million ($70 million).
Mahrez was instrumental in Leister’s miraculous Premier League triumph in the 2015-16 season. Claudio Ranieri, former Leicester City boss, would describe him as the one who “was always a thorn in the side of the defenders”.
Mahrez had joined Leister City from the French club AC Le Harve in the 2013-14 season. The contract was then signed for three and a half years. But with his growth in the team, the winger was offered a new four-year extension in the 2015-16 season. He was one of the four players that the club tried to hang on to in the wake of their title-winning run, by handing a big salary increment. Leister reportedly offered the winger €100,000 ($116,000) a week to make him stay.
During the last season the interest towards Mahrez grew, and he is reported to be finally lured away by Manchester City. City who have spent magnanimously since the arrival of Pep Guardiola, would be waiting for Mahrez’s medical this week, after which he will join the EPL champions.
