LeBron James $154 million signing is paying immediate dividends to Los Angeles Lakers. As the news about the mega signing broke, Los Angeles Lakers cheapest season tickets prices sky rocketed to $5,800 from $3,499.
Willing to shell out $5,000 + to watch an NBA match? This is exactly what you have to pay in order to witness a Los Angeles Lakers match.
But this time basketball fans will get a chance to see LeBron James in action donning the yellow, purple, white LA Lakers jersey.
The price of a season ticket to watch the Los Angeles Lakers NBA match has nearly doubled on StubHub in just a few minutes after the announcement that LeBron James would be joining the team under a four-year, $154 million deal.
According to ESPN, the cheapest Lakers season tickets on the ticket exchange website before the move was $3,499 each. Twenty minutes after the announcement, which was made through James’ agency, Klutch Sports Group, the prices had soared to $5,800 each. The report further reveals that one person has paid $188,781 on StubHub for four season tickets, none of which include play-off games!
Tickets for the Lakers’ pre-season games have also roughly doubled in price. StubHub has now put the team’s regular season opener on sale by zones, with the cheapest ticket available for $550 plus fees.
This has surpassed the ticket price value during 2017 NBA Finals when tickets for courtside seats for the fifth Game peaked at $66,500 on the Warriors Ticketmaster resale site. The average Get-In price for Game 5 at the Oracle Arena was $780.00 per ticket, while the average secondary market resale price for the game was $1500.00 per ticket.
To put that in perspective, the ticket price for the famous ‘Super Fight’ clash between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Conor McGregor held on August 26, 2017 were as high as $110,763.22 on the secondary market. For The Augusta Masters Golf, considered one of the most expensive event in sports, you have to shell out $4,486 for a four-day pass.
James, who is widely considered to be one of the greatest NBA players of all time, joins the Lakers as a free agent after his contract with his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, expired following their 4-0 defeat to the Golden State Warriors in this year’s NBA Finals.
James, a four-time NBA MVP and 14-time NBA All-Star, had been dubbed the most valuable free agent in the history of sports. According to Forbes, when James first left the Cavaliers to join the Miami Heat in 2010, the franchise value dropped from $476 million to $355 million in a single year.
Cavaliers may now face the same ordeal once again. If a 25 per cent drop happens again on this occasion, the loss at current Forbes values would be more than $300 million.
