Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024 OCs sign MoU to cooperate in event delivery

Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024 OCs sign MoU to cooperate in event delivery
The organising committees of Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which both organisations will cooperate with the aim of ensuring successful delivery of their respective Games.
Both the parties have committed to exchange knowledge and expertise in various ways. The two Organising Committees (OC) will share their experiences preparing for and managing major sporting events, covering areas such as exchange of personnel, volunteer recruitment, language services, communications, and ceremony planning, states the official joint release.
The MoU will bind the two Olympic Committees for sharing of best practices in the promotion of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements through seminars and other events covering areas of mutual interest such as education programmes, engagement activities, the Cultural Olympiad, sustainability, and legacy planning.
The signing ceremony took place on 11 July 2018, attended by Tokyo 2020 CEO Toshiro Muto and Paris 2024 CEO Etienne Thobois on the sidelines of the visit of the IOC Coordination Commission to Tokyo.
Toshiro Muto said, “We are pleased to have signed this Memorandum of Understanding promoting cooperation between the two Organising Committees responsible for delivering the consecutive Olympic and Paralympic Games of Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.”
“This MoU will allow us to cooperate in a variety of areas, and we believe that both Committees will benefit from the synergies this win-win relationship will bring. We will collaborate as we build momentum and prepare for the Games’ delivery by leveraging each other’s knowledge.”
Etienne Thobois added, “We are delighted to sign this cooperation agreement with our friends from Tokyo 2020. It marks the start of a new, more collaborative and partnership-led approach between the host cities, the IOC and the IPC, driven by a shared ambition to stage ever-more responsible and spectacular Games.”
“As Paris 2024, we are proud to play our part in co-creating a new generation of more sustainable and useful Games, fully in line with the recommendations of the IOC’s Agenda 2020 and New Norm.”
Contact persons will be appointed in each Organising Committee, responsible for ensuring that both sides are working closely in accordance with the principles of the Memorandum of Understanding, while day-to-day collaboration will be managed by those responsible for each specific area of cooperation.
