Chinese internet and tech giants Tencent has extended its digital rights deal for the Tour de France 2018 edition. The deal was first signed last year.
Under the new one-year deal with Tour de France operator Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), Tencent Sports will serve as the official digital media partner of the world’s most coveted cycling grand tour in China.
Tencent has acquired the exclusive rights to stream every stage of the Tour de France 2018, which started on July 7, across its various over-the-top (OTT), digital and internet platforms.
Tencent will also deliver highlights and additional coverage via its social media channels, QQ and Wechat along with on-demand content and additional shoulder programming.
Tencent said it will upgrade its presentation for this year’s Tour adding features such as expert analysis from former riders.
ASO’s deal with Tencent comes after it this week extended its television rights contract with Chinese state broadcaster CCTV through to 2021.
The 2018 Tour de France commences on Saturday, July 7, with the Grand Départ being held in the Vendée department of France.
