The Virat Kolhi factor: Why teams are scared of Indian skipper’s support

The Virat Kolhi factor: Why teams are scared of Indian skipper’s support

Who won’t like Virat Kohli – among the most successful international athletes – to be on their side. The reason might be strange but teams might be scared of the Indian cricket team captain to be on their side.
For, it is on record how Kohli’s support has cost some of the team’s dear. He did not have a hand in their loss, but still his support did not work well for these combines.
The Indian skipper is an ardent football fan. Passionate to the extent that he has made football an integral part of his fitness training drills for cricket. Amidst the anxiety of Indian cricket team’s test on the English soil, he his hooked to the FIFA World Cup in Russia. Supporting teams from his #doosricountry.
Just like any other football fan, Kohli does not shy away from exhibiting his support for the teams from his #doosricountry. It is difficult to say whether the passionate athlete is let down by his favourite teams from the #doosricountry, or his support is not doing good for the teams.
Starting from the qualifiers, Virat has shown his open support for four major teams that have failed to deliver. Such is the consistency in this support-failure sequence that social media is abuzz with memes over the coincidental connect between Kohli’s support and his favourite team’s loss.
ITALY – The footballing world was in a great shock when the 2006 champions failed to qualify for the World Cup. The Italians surprise loss to Sweden meant that the team will not play a World Cup finals for the first time since 1958. This was also the first time when Kohli was supporting the team emotionally and was not at all shy about this. Hell of a coincidence, one would say. But a “Beautiful blow” it was as said by the FIFA president.
GERMANY – With the Italians failing to even make it to Russia, Kohli turned to the 2014 champions Germany. And with their last-minute goal against Sweden, everyone thought that the defending champions would be back on track but what was not accounted was the Kohli factor. The Gods turned their back on Germany as they crashed out in the Group Stage. Thus forcing Kohli to change his allegiance once again.
PORTUGAL – The Indian skipper has always been a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo and has even called him the greatest footballer ever numerous times. So Kohli turning to support Portugal wasn’t a big shocker per say. The shock came in the round of 16 when Ronaldo’s Portugal got knocked out by Uruguay. And given the trends, one can say that the Kohli factor might have tuned in.
ARGENTINA – With all his extended support to the three blockbuster teams, Kohli was also rooting for Argentina and Lionel Messi. The cricket icon would have hoped for the team to at least replicate their 2014 World Cup performance. But the difference in the two World Cups would have been disappointing for Kohli himself. Argentina became the first team of the 2018 World Cup to be knocked out from the Round of 16.
Among the latest of the memes on the Virat Kohli ill-fate factor, Putin can be seen pleading “no support” for his team.
Any takers among the World Cup 2018 quarter-finalists for Kohli’s emotional support now? Or, in their interest, the Indian captain has become too busy with the serious cricketing business against hosts England.
