Football Delhi strengthens financial muscle; signs JSW Sports as Principal Partner

Football Delhi gets JSW Sports on board as principal partner

Football Delhi, the governing body for the sport in the Capital, has announced the commercial tie-up with JSW Sports. As part of the deal, JSW Sports will be the Principal Partner of Football Delhi for the next three years.
The partnership was jointly announced in Delhi on Wednesday (August 8) by the Football Delhi president Shaji Prabhakaran and JSW Sports Director Parth Jindal.
“We are proud to partner Football Delhi,” said Jindal, while acknowledging that a lot needs to be done to lift the Delhi football to regain its glorious past. “We all know that football in Delhi has a glorious past. But steps need to be taken to improve the game in Capital. We are confident that the able leadership of Football Delhi will ensure that football takes giant strides in the years to come.”
JSW Sports, as part of the deal, will fund the salaries of the Football Delhi administrative staff among other support.

The deal is weaved in by the Football Delhi president and a respected professional in football and sports administration Shaji Prabhakaran. “We are thrilled to have JSW as the Principal Partner of Football Delhi. JSW shares our vision for improving football in Delhi,” Prabhakaran said.
“We have grand plans and strategy for football in the Capital. We aim to make Delhi a model football State by 2021 with the support of all our associates,” added Prabhakaran, who also shared that Football Delhi has been following up with the authorities to get the Ambedkar Stadium on a lease to develop a football stadium akin to the adjacent Feroz Shah Kotla ground, which the Delhi and District Cricket Association has developed after getting the premises on a lease.
Even as Football Delhi is working on a vision to make the Capital a model football State, India’s unarguably best footballer of this era and the most successful striker Sunil Chhetri happens to be a Delhi boy. The Indian football team captain Chhetri is also leading JSW Sports’ owned Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League.
Football Delhi has celebrated Chhetri’s birthday on August 3 as the Delhi Football Day.
