Mridula Bhadauria has challenged the Delhi High Court order to remove her from the office of the president of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI).
Ms Bhadauria has moved the Supreme Court of India for a stay on the Delhi High Court order that had declared her election as the AKFI President illegal and quashed the same. The court in the same order had also pronounced illegal and set aside the appointment of Janardhan Singh Gehlot, Ms Bhadauria’s husband and a AKFI president for 2018 years.
The court had appointed IAS (Retd) Sanat Kaul as the AKFI Administrator “who would, till further orders, take over control of the AKFI and administer all its affairs. He shall stand substituted in place of the President of the AKFI, and shall be entitled to exercise all powers which existed, heretofore, in the President of the AKFI,” the court had observed.
Ms Bhadauria has pleaded that since she had been elected to the office of the AKFI president via an electoral process, the High Court has erred in its judgement to set aside her election. She has further pleaded that since AKFI needed a representation at the Asian Kabaddi Federation meeting during the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, the Apex Court may please stay the Delhi High Court order of August 3 and allow her to function as the AKFI President.
The Delhi High Court has though empowered the Administrator represent the Federation at various forum till the time of the next election, which the court has ordered should be completed in six months’ time from August 3.
The matter is listed for hearing on August 20, Monday.
Meanwhile, names JS Gehlot and Ms Bhadauria have been removed from the AKFI official website as the president and life president respectively.
