DDCA Cricket Director Bhardwaj starts indefinite hunger strike ‘in open’

Director Bhardwaj starts indefinite
Delhi and District Cricket Director and former first class cricketer Sanjay Bhardwaj has gone on an “indefinite hunger strike” at the Feroze Shah Kotla ground in the Capital. A section of DDCA members have joined him in support.
Bhardwaj has waged a war against “unconstitutional appointment of the DDCA cricket and selection committees”.  He is also “pressing for implementation of the Lodha Committee recommendations and the BCCI Constitution in letter and spirit”.
“I have failed in my conciliatory and humble efforts to convince the autocrat DDCA president to abide by and strictly follow the judgement of the Hon’ble Supreme Court and Justice Lodha Committee recommendations regarding conflict of interest. This crucial aspect of any democratic body has been thrown out of the window in appointment of the DDCA CEO, COO and CFO. There is also a blatant conflict of interest and defiance of the BCCI Constitution in appointment of Virender Sehwag, Akash Chopra, Rahul Sanghvi, Gautam Gambhir, Amti Bhandari, Rajat Bhatia, Sukhwinder Singh, Sidhartha Sahib Singh, Pavinder Awana and Mayank Tehlan in the Cricket Committee and various selection committees,” Bhardwaj told insidesport.co.
“I had raised my concern with the BCCI president, who is adamant to force his unlawful and unfair decisions,” adds Bhardwaj. “I have no personal agendas. But as long as I am here I will fight for the interest of cricket and the cricketers.”
Bhardwaj, backed by ‘suspneded DDCA secretary Vinod Tihara, and his handful supporter has been sitting on the “dharna” in the open outside the DDCA premises. Delhi Police have denied them the permission to install a temporary tent. “We had informed the DCP, Central District, on Monday. But at the last minute we are told that we cannot even install a temporary tent here,” a Bhardwaj-Tihara supporter told insidesport.co. “We know that we are fighting against powerful people. But Sanjay Bhai (Bhardwaj) has legitimate demands. We are standing by the truth so we have no fear. Hundreds of DDCA well-wishers have pledged their support for this call for justice. Rain, storm or thunder Sanjay (Bharswaj) will not be alone here,” he added.
Bhardwaj on August 11 had called a Press Conference and asked for the abolition of the DDCA Cricket Committee, selection committees and CEO, COO and CFO, which Bhardwaj claimed, had been unilaterally appointed by the President.
Thereafter, Tihara had attempted to stall the decisions taken by the President. The ugly spat between the all-powerful president and the secretary had led to Tihara’s suspension from the DDCA. Tihara, however, had termed the suspension unlawful and dared the president to call a special general meeting “to remove” him.
However, the veteran newsman Rajat Sharma enjoys the majority support in the newly-elected DDCA executive committee as 12 members of the 15-strong body are on his side. All 12 had supported the decision to suspend Tihara.
The Tihara group though claims that just like the appointments of various DDCA committees and staff, the DDCA and the BCCI constitution is also not followed to suspend him.
