The African nations are calling for a “rotation policy” to decide on the rights to host the FIFA World Cup games. The demand is raised after Morocco has lost its bid to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup to a combined bid by the USA, Mexico and Canada.
After Morocco’s crushing defeat for the hosting rights to 2026 FIFA World Cup, various top football officials from African sub-continent have come in support to call on FIFA for reintroducing a rotation system for the FIFA World Cup hosting bid.
Morocco was defeated by the joint bid proposal from the football associations of Canada, Mexico and United States to host the 2026 edition of the WorldCup. The 68th FIFA Congress in Moscow held on the eve of FIFA World Cup 2018 had overwhelmingly voted in favour of the United Bid. The United 2026 bid had garnered 67% of the votes from 204 member nations at the Congress.
The World Cup has only been staged in Africa for once when South Africa played host to the 2010 edition. Morocco also unsuccessfully bid to host the 1994, 1998, 2006 and 2010 tournaments.
