BARC Ratings: India-Ireland T20s push football out of top 5 chart

The FIFA World Cup 2018 fever has the nation in its grip. But in the Indian sports content market, nothing sells like cricket. India’s lacklustre series of T20 International games with Ireland has pushed the FIFA World Cup 2018 out of the top five sports genre shows’ list on Indian television. The latest Week 26 Broadcast Audience Research Council television viewership ratings (between June 23 and June 29) have the India-Ireland T20I series live broadcast as all the top five sports genre shows on Indian television. It was all FIFA World Cup a week ago.
Whether cricket or football World Cup, Sony Pictures Network is placed comfortably in the first four positions of the Top Five Sports Genre Channel chart.
The second India-Ireland T20 is the most watched sports programme for the week – holding three of the five slots for its live broadcast on Sony Ten 3, Sony Six and DD Sports respectively. The other two slots – Sony Ten 2 and Sony Six – are occupied by the first T20 in Dublin on June 27.
However, with live football action all through the week, Sony Ten 2 continues to be the most watched sports channel in the weak in spite of a sharp decline in impressions – which have gone down to 131,107,000 from 181,734,000 in Week 24. Sony Ten 3, on the strength of the India-Ireland T20 series, has made an impressive gain in the second position – recording 126,251,000 impressions as against 115,535,000 a week ago.
Live broadcast of the two other important sports events during the week – the Kabaddi Masters in Dubai and the Ultimate Table Tennis League – did not make a big impression. Irrespective of the grand Pro Kabaddi League success, the Kabaddi Masters in Dubai could not penetrate into the Indian fan base for the sport. The Ceat UTT, in spite of a strong star quotient and India’s CWG sensation Manika Batra’s presence, too has not drawn considerable spectators for the live broadcast.
