Forbes’ Highest Paid Celebrities: Mayweather tops chart, but Kohli not in list

India’s highest paid brand icon Virat Kohli did not find a place in the Forbes’ Top 100 Highest Paid Celebrities. Forbes World’s Highest Paid Celebrities Top 100 chart for 2018, led by pro boxing icon Floyd Mayweather, has Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan as the Indian representations.
Iconic professional boxer Floyd Mayweather has been ranked no. 1 in Forbes latest top 100 list of World’s Highest Paid Celebrities. Ranked 83rd among Forbes’ Top 100 highest paid athletes, Kohli fails to find a place among the top 100 Highest Paid Celebrities roster. Even though there are 23 representations from sports.
In India, Kohli remains the most expensive brand icon. He is also the cricket world’s highest paid celebrity.
Forbes’ latest list of world’s Top 100 Highest Paid Celebrities has Floyd Mayweather on top of the charts for netting $286 million in professional earnings, surging past George Clooney. The Hollywood actor sits at the second spot with $239 million net annual earnings.
The 41-year-old, whose name was not even added to the 2017 list, has bagged the top honours this time, thanks to his one-time final comeback fight with the UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor on 26 August last year. The duel, considered to be ‘The Biggest Fight in Combat Sports History”, saw him taking away a guaranteed paycheck of $100 million.
The list, ruled by Mayweather, includes 23 athletes from all over the world. Argentine and Barcelona football star Lionel Messi, at the eighth spot, is the second highest earning celebrity among the athletes with $111 million fortunes. Messi is followed by Cristiano Ronaldo who sits at tenth spot in the top 100 list. The Portuguese and ex-Real Madrid iconic striker’s annual earning is estimated at $108 million. Messi and Ronaldo remain the highest earning football stars around the globe.
Among other sports celebrities in the list worth mentionable include: young Brazilian Neymar at 13, Roger Federer at 23, 4-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton at 47, Golf sensation Tiger Woods at 66, 17 Grand Slam title holder Rafael Nadal at 72 etc among others. The roster among athletes, as established, is ruled by Americans representing golf and sports league giants – NFL and NBA.
Ace Indian cricketer and skipper Virat Kohli has failed to make the cut among the highest earning global celebrities. The prominent brand icon and hard-hitting batsmen had featured at 83rd position among the Forbes 100 World’s highest-paid athletes last year. He was the only Indian and cricketer in the list.
In a list where Indian athletes are virtually absent, two Indian Bollywood heartthrobs got the honours. Akshay Kumar is ranked 76th with $40.5 million earnings whereas Salman Khan ranked 82nd ($37.7 million). Both the stars enjoy a massive fan following in India. Another Bollywood biggie Shah Rukh, whose name was present in the 2017 list and ranked above Akshay and Salman, is nowhere to be seen in this year’s release.
