Saina, Sindhu, Srikanth get similar ₹80 lakh deals

India’s ace shuttlers Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth have all got ₹80 lakh as the trio has been picked by North East Shuttlers, Hyderabad Hunters and Bengaluru Raptors respectively for the Premier Badminton League 2018.
The Premier Badminton League Governing Council has put a salary cap at ₹ 80 for the icon players. In the event of more than one team making the highest ₹ 80 lakh bid for an icon player, the deadlock is resolved by the draw of lots.
Among other big bids, Tapsee Pannu owned Pune Seven Aces have landed the biggest fish in the pond – Caroline Marin – for their debut in India’s premier badminton league. Mumbai Rockets got south Korean doubles star Yong Dae while Victor Axelsen went to Ahmedabad Smash Masters. All the three players are picked at the highest possible price of ₹ 80 lakh.
The icon players go under the hammer at a base price of ₹ 70 lakh with the highest salary cap of ₹ 80 lakh. A franchise can spend up to a maximum of ₹ 2.60 crore to build the squad of not less than 10 players – for women’s and men’s singles and men’s, women’s and mixed doubles.
Badminton Association of India’s professional league was launched as the Indian Badminton League in 2013 by Sporty Solutionz Private Limited as the biggest commercial venture for the sport.
