Afghanistan Premier League in Indian subcontinent


DSport has acquired the broadcast rights for the inaugural edition of the much awaited Afghanistan Premier League (APL T20 League), slated for October 5 to 21, in the Indian subcontinent.
Indian cricket fans can catch all the live action of the Inaugural edition of Afghanistan’s franchisee-based professional T20 cricket competition on Dsport, a Discovery Communications owned sports channel in the Indian Subcontinent.
The first season of Afghanistan’s official T20 League, approved and sanctioned by Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and International Cricket Council (ICC), will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Afghanistan Premier League will feature 23 fixtures to be played across a span of 17 days with five teams battling it out for the inaugural title. The league will also feature over 35 overseas players from 10 nations picked up in the recently concluded the player draft including some of the popular cricketing stalwarts like Shahid Afridi, Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum and Andre Russell are among the top international stars.
Shafiqullah Stanikzai CEO Afghanistan Cricket Board said , “ We are delighted that the APL T 20 will be carried to close to 100 million homes in India through the Broadcast on DSport. We expect a keenly fought competition which is sure to enthrall the Cricket loving Viewers in India”
Karan Bajaj, Senior Vice President & General Manager – South Asia, Discovery Communications India, said, “We are excited to partner with Afghanistan Cricket Board to broadcast the inaugural edition of Afghanistan Cricket League in India. We expect huge traction for the league given the presence of super stars of cricket and the fact all the matches will be played at prime time in India.”

Windies star batsman Chris Gayle aka ‘Universe Boss’ conyed his excitement to participate in APL T20 League. “I have played T20 leagues across the world but I am especially excited to be part of inaugural edition of Afghanistan Cricket League.”
“I can see Afghanistan emerging as a future global cricket power– the young talent that has emerged from the country is indeed impressive, The new league will offer a huge opportunity to the young players of this emerging cricket nation to learn from the best in the world,” Gayle added.
Brendon McCullum echoed similar sentiments: “I have read reports of how the entire country in Afghanistan was awake following the exploits of Rashid Khan during IPL. Now, they will get to see so many of their youngsters in action along with the best in the world. Looking forward to the league,” he said.
