Mumbai City FC have completed their last international signing for the upcoming Indian Super League season. The 26-year-old Arnold Nkufo Issoko from Congo is Mumbai City FC’s last foreign signing for the season.
The club, while announcing the signing, expressed confidence of a good showing after assembling a well-rounded side.
Arnold caught the eye of head coach Jorge Costa when he made his senior debut for Rebordosa AC in Portugal. The midfielder sharpened his skills in various lower divisions in the same country before graduating to the Primiera Liga with GD Chaves. He eventually made 65 appearances for the side and even scored eight goals.
“I have seen Arnold and like his commitment and spirit,” head coach Jorge Costa said. “He will be a perfect for us,” he added.
Issoko’s exploits at Chaves led him to another top tier team, Vitoria de Setubal, where he made 36 appearances and scored a total of five goals. In May 2016, he also represented his national team, against Romania in a friendly, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Having completed all their signings, CEO of Mumbai City FC Indranil Das Blah said, “We have supported the coach in all his endeavours and we believe that he is on the right track to make this club achieve what it deserves.”
“The team is training hard in Thailand and I am sure this shall be the season that the Islanders soar to new heights,” he added.
